Joseph John Mazny, Sr., 68, of 12554 Ward Drive, Chesterland, died March 19 at Geauga Community Hospital where he had been a patient for the past 13 days. He was born May 4, 1899 in Bohemia, now Czechoslovakia and came to Cleveland as a young boy with his parents, Mary and Dominic Mazny, who are both deceased.
He attended school in Cleveland and later moved with his parents to Bass Lake Road in Munson.
On June 19, 1923, he married Mary Andel of Bohemia in Chardon and in 1954 the couple moved to his home in Chesterland.
During his lifetime, Mr. Mazny was well known for his interest in horticulture and landscape gardening, and he worked for many years in that profession in the Gates Mills Shaker Heights and related areas.
During the war years, he worked at the Snapout Forms Co. in Chardon and the Twist Drill in Cleveland. He was employed for 15 years at the Mayfield City Schools until his retirement in 1964. Since the, up until the time of his death, he had enjoyed his hobby of gardening and working part time with his son in Munson.
Mr. Mazny is survived by his wife Mary, one son Joseph F. Mazny, Jr. of Munson, daughters Mrs. Vernon (Mary) Pillivant of Cleveland, Mrs. Walter (Joanne) Hugo of Chesterland, Mrs. Anthony (Theresa) Tizzano of Chesterland and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Badovinac of Lakewood, California.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
A brother, Charles Mazny of Chardon survives him as do his sisters, Miss Theresa Mazny of Lnydhurst, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Opatrny of Lyndhurst, Mrs. James (Ann) Cufr of Rock Creek, Mrs. Steve (Josephine) Tvergyak of Munson and Mrs. Frank (Rose) Sulc of Munson.
Family will receive friends at the Ritondaro Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery. The Times Leader, Chardon, March 21, 1968
