Van Harpole, a Winona native living in St. George, Utah died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1986, in that town. He was 78.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida (Pat) Grisham Harpole and two sisters, Elizabeth Bowen and Sara Money, both of Winona.

Harpole was reared and educated in Mississippi, then joined the Army, later transferring to the Air Force. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.

During World War II he served in Northern Africa, Sicily and Italy. He also served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He lived in the St Louis, Mo. area prior to moving to St. George in 1979.

Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St George's Bloomington LDS Chapel. Interment was in the city cemetery with full military honors
