Robert C Wood was a resident of Fremont County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private on 7 Dec 1863 at the age of 19 years. He mustered in Co A 4th Iowa Cavalry on the same day as his enlistment.

While acting as orderly, Robert was captured in action 16 Apr 1865 at Columbus, Georgia. He escaped his guard and with several comrades returned to the enemy's lines and captured the Colonel and the Adjutant of the regiment which had held him. Wood mustered out 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.

The death of Robert C Wood occurred on the 15th at the residence of Mr. H. Mather.

The late Mr. Wood is a native of Iowa, U.S.A. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, also enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry, fought in the Civil War and received a pension from the Government. He leaves a family of two daughters in Arcata, California. In the early days of California Mr. Wood was a stage driver. Later he was well known in East and West Kootenay as a packer.

The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, Mr. W. Agabob officiating. The deceased was buried in the Fort Steele Cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Howard, Duncan, Healy and Dalgardno.
