Brookline--- Peter Paul Abate, 79, died Saturday at New England Deaconess Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Alleyne (Spiller) Abate.
Born in Salem, Mass., son of the late Adolfo and Licita(DiCola) Abate, he grew up in Beverly. He was captain and half-back on the Beverly High School football team.
Had full scholarship to the Boston Museum School to study sculpture.
Chosen to participate in Officer's Candidate School, he was honorabbly discharged due to leg problems. Because of his artistic abilities, he was put in charge of the art department of the Air Force Rehabilitation and Convolescent Center in Fla.
Received many, many awards and honors in Europe, Mexico, Italy & the United States.
Sculpture instructor at the Boston Museum for 20 years; instructor at the Cordova Museum; instructor at Pine Manor College, Miami School of Art, Miami Adult Education Center, etc.
Until recently, had conducted his own creative workshop in Chestnut Hill for 20 years.
Survived by his wife, a daughter, Alleyne "Valley" Winslow Abate of Framingham; a brother, Fernando Abate of Beverly; sisters, Lee Cavossa, Florence LeClerc and Anita Meuse of Beverly and Louise Grondin of Danvers. Brother of the late Aurelia Pelonzi and Dominic Abate.
Services at All Saints Episcopal Church, Brookline. Burial in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Brookline.
