| Birth: | Mar. 12, 1827 | | Death: | Apr. 1, 1901 |  Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. He was principal of a military school in Urbanna, Maryland, when appointed a Lieutenant Colonel of the 33rd Virginia Infantry Regiment at the start of the Civil War. In 1862, he was promoted Brigadier General commanding General Stonewall Jackson's 2nd Brigade at the battles of Cold Harbor, Malvern Hill, Antietam and Chancellorsville. In July, 1863, he was captured by Union troops in Smithburg, Maryland and imprisoned at Fort Warren, Massachusetts, until end of war. After the war, he was a businessman and commissioner in chancery for circuit court in Harrisonburg, Virginia. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
