Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs. Nellie Payne, 58, Had Been Resident Of Blair Since 1926

Mrs. Nellie Payne, 58, well-known Blair resident, died at Clarkson hospital in Omaha, Monday, Dec. 27. Stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage, she was taken ill only 12 hours before her death.

Father Adelbert J. Smith conducted service this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

As Nellie Johnson, Mrs. Payne was born at Kennard, July 23, 1885, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Magnus Johnson, well-known countians. She was married to Ell Payne in June, 1920, when the couple moved to Oklahoma and resided in that state until Mr. Payne's death in 1926. Since then Mrs. Payne had lived at 67 West South Street, Blair, with her sister, Mrs. Ida Johson.

Surviving are two children, Mary and Victor, of Omaha; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Foley and Miss Ida Johnson of Blair; and Miss Emma Johnson of Washington, D.C.; and one brother, Lawrence Johnson of Blair.

RITES HELD FOR MRS. NELLIE PAYNE

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Payne, 58, were held last Thursday afternoon at St. Mary's Episcopal church. The Blair woman had died suddenly Dec. 27 following a 12-hour illness.

The rites were conducted by Father Adelbert J. Smith, vicar; music was provided by Mrs. Thomas Blanchard. Burial was in Blair cemetery, under direction of Campbell Mortuary.

Mrs. Payne, a native of Kennard and resident of Blair since 1926, is survived by two children, Mary and Victor of Omaha; three sisters, Mrs. Robert Foley and Miss Ida Johnson of Blair, and Miss Emma Johnson of Washington, D.C.; and a brother,Lawrence Johnson of Blair.
