Wilma (Zeismer) Skarban, 93, formerly of rural Lena died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. She had resided there for the past eight years. Wilma was born on September 20, 1917, and was the daughter of William and Ottie (Widger) Zeismer. She grew up on a farm on the Belgian Road outside of Lena. She attended the "little" one room country school on the Belgian Road and graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1935. Wilma married George Skarban on December 3, 1936. She then moved to rural Coleman where she farmed and raised her family of six children. At the age of seventy, Wilma became very ill and moved to Belgium, Wisconsin, to live with her daughter, Irene, just to recuperate. Instead of moving back to the area, she became known as "Granny" to the staff, students, and parents of St. Mary School. She became the recess supervisor, chocolate chip cookie baker, costume maker, classroom assistant to Miss Jodi and her K4 class, and friend. Her good nature, hugs, and smiles made each day special to all. Her greatest joy in life was her family of two daughters, Georgia Ann Effenberger of Oconto Falls and Irene of Appleton; four sons; George (Darlene) of Oconto, Norbert (Darlene) of Suring, Otto (Cathlyn) of Milwaukee, and Howard (Patricia) of rural Coleman; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Wilma is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Emily Ziesmer of rural Lena and Naomi Zeismer of Miamisburg, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, William and Ottie Zeismer; step-mother, Frieda, three brothers; Orville, Gustave, and Myron; one granddaughter, Diana Effenberger; and her dad, James. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Relatives and friends may call at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, 235 E. Main St., Coleman from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1st until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Gerald Falk will officiate with burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Coleman. "The family would like to thank the staff of St. Paul Home and Hospice for the loving care and attention given to "mom" these past eight years. We also want to thank Fr. Gerald Falk who visited mom often while at St. Paul's. We appreciate all that was done to comfort her and give her life dignity during her most vulnerable moments."
