Transcribed Will of Eli Chaffin 1803-1845
I Eli Chaffin of Houston County Republic of Texas do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form _________ following _______. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife the plantation I now live on it being 220 acres out of Stephen Crist headright two beds and bedding and all my kitchen furniture______________________. I give and bequeath to my son William seven head of cattle and his own colt and hogs and to my son John his colt, six heads of cattle and his own hogs, to my daughter Elizabeth one cow and calf and to my Christopher Columbus and my daughter Mary Jane and Sarah Emeline as they become ten years old one cow and calf each. All the balance of my property namely cattle, hogs, and horses, grain wagon and farming utensels to be put into the hands of my wife for the use of her and my children for raising and schooling my children. I do appoint J.J. Pinson, John Parker and Stephen Crist to assist my wife in purchasing a young negro woman with such pay as her and the said Pinson, Parker and Crist may think best, the pay to come out of my property, the said negro woman to belong to my wife during her life then at her death said negro shall fall to my heirs ________my wife to have a child's part of said property________________.

The last will and testament of Eli Chaffin was this day presented in open court for probate and the same having been duly proven by Stephen Crist and J. H. Huffman, two of the subscribing witnesses to said will. It is therefore ordered by the Court that said Last Will of Eli Chaffin deceased be admitted to Probate.
Ordered by the court that letters testamentary be issued to Lavina Chaffin upon the last will and testament of Eli Chaffin Deceased upon her giving bond and security as the law directs and being qualified.
Ordered by the Court that Daniel Hassell, B. W. Douthit and Joseph Parker be and they are hereby appointed to appraise the property belonging to the estate of Eli Chaffin Deceased.

John and Elizabeth Chaffin minor heirs of Eli Chaffin deceased being over the age of fourteen years having appeared in open court and chosen their mother Lavina Parker their guardian.
Whereupon it is ordered by the court that Lavina Parker be and is hereby appointed Guardian of John and Elizabeth Chaffin upon her entering into a bond in the amount of two thousand dollars conditional according to law.
Ordered by the Court that Lavina Parker is hereby appointed by the Court Guardian of Lucy Ann, Christopher C., Mary J. and Sarah E. Chaffin minor heirs of Eli Chaffin under the age of fourteen years.
