John E. Aungst, 73, East Freedom, passed away Monday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Hollidaysburg, son of the late Earl and Alice (Weyant) Aungst. He married Mary L. Helsel on Sept. 29, 1962, in Geeseytown.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years; two sons: David and wife, Jean, of Claysburg and Darryl and wife, Jody, of Tyrone; four grandchildren: Matt, Rebecca, Corey and Samantha; and a sister, Ruth Smith and husband, Ken, of Puzzletown.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristen Aungst.
John was a 1958 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He retired as a digester operator from Appleton Papers Inc. in 2002 after more than 36 years of service. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Leamersville Campus, and a member of the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, April 26, 2013, at Grace Fellowship Church, Leamersville Campus, 14 Brethren Lane, Duncansville, Pastor Mark Lingenfelter officiating. Interment will be at Claysburg Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Kidney Dialysis Unit payable to F.M.C. Altoona, c/o Jill Lutz, 1602 Ninth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, or to his church.
