Maureen Ammeter died March 28, 2013.
She was born in 1931 in Camas. Maurren began working at Crown Zellerbach in the bag factory in 1950. When it was shut down, she trasferred to the wood mill. That was the job she really loved. Maureen retired in 1991. So many people still remember her performance of "Casey at the Bat: for a high school program. She appeared on stage in a beaseball uniform, which reall made it special. In 1999 she discovered the Professional Bull Riders, and immediately fell in love with the sport. She attended several events with a dear friend, Richard Hendryx. Reading was another passion, particularly Greek mythology. She could spend hours discussing the stories and characters with anyone who would listen.
Stray animals of all kinds were always being rescured by Maureen and brought home, but cats had a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her father, William; her mother, Esther and her brother, Bill.
She is survived by her sister, Lucinda.
Friends are invited to share memories at an informal service at the Sunnyside Cemetery on Thursday, at 2 p.m. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
