Helen was always so full of warmth, love and laughter and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She passed away peacefully on April 25th, blessed and surrounded by family and beloved friends. She was born June 1, 1919 in San Pedro to Andrew and Mary Fistonich. Helen was a graduate of San Pedro High School, class of 1937. She was affiliated with Star Fisheries, a company founded by her father Andrew Fistonich in 1921. Raised by a philanthropic family, Helen was always a staunch supporter of many charities and organizations, especially the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild, Little Sisters of the Poor, Assistance League, Mary Star of the Sea Church, Holy Trinity Church, past president of Rotary Ann's and a member of the former Women's Chamber of Commerce. Helen was recently named one of San Pedro's "Living Treasures" in a ceremony this past March. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neno; her two sons, Anthony and Michael DiMaggio; brother, Andrew Fistonich; brother-in-law, Nick Mardesich and sister-in-law, Pauline Fistonich. She was an amazingly loving person and so loved in return. She is survived by her sister, Anita Mardesich; beloved cousin, Martina (Ante) Butorovic; niece, Marie (Larry) Guerrero; nephews, Nick Mardesich Jr. and Andy Fistonich; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces and grand nephews - all descendants of the DiMaggio, Fistonich and Chaidez families and of course her many, many beloved friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to Enza Cracchiolo for her many years of loving care as well as Dora Corral and Evie Tomaga for their kindness. Viewing will be May 7th from 4 - 7 p.m. at McNerney's Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be offered at Holy Trinity church on Wednesday, May 8th at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's name to the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild, in care of Mrs. Phyllis Trujillo at 7 Wagon Lane, Rolling Hills, CA 90274.
