Born in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, in 1875 his parents moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he attended the public schools. He became a watchmaker and jeweler and became employed in that trade. In 1902 he was elected to the Harrisburg School Board and served from 1903 to 1912. In June of 1903 he was appointed postmaster of Harrisburg and served until June 20, 1922. In November he was elected to represent Pennsylvania's 19th District in the United States House of Representatives, but failed in a 1924 reelection bid. Following his election loss he returned to Harrisburg and became involved in the bond business. (bio by: Glenn Koons)
