A FOUNDING FATHER OF La PORTE INDIANA
James Andrew, Jr. was one of the founding fathers of LaPorte, Indiana. He and his brother Captain Abram Piatt Andrew (1792-1872) built a section of the old Michigan Road. They took their pay in government land which encompassed much of present day LaPorte arriving there in 1831. His original homestead was located off Andrew Avenue. It was built in 1832 and razed in 1999. In 1869, he purchased the "James Andrew Mansion" for $10,000. It is located at 1001 Madison Street in LaPorte. In 1823, James Andrew, Jr. married Abigail Lane. They had three children; Catherine Piatt Andrew-Andrew, James Andrew, III., who died in childhood and William Lane Andrew. His first wife, Abigail Lane, died in 1842. He married his second wife Sarah Ross in 1846. James Andrew, Jr. has a large family obelisk in the Pine Lake Cemetery.

James Andrew, Jr. was the son of James Andrew, Sr. and Catherine Piatt. James Andrew, Sr. (1777-1854) was born in Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. His parents were Dr. John Andrew (1748-1814) and Rachel Chamberlin. James Andrew, Sr. married Catherine Piatt on 21 Apr 1796 in New Jersey . Catherine Piatt (1770-1828) was born in Six Mile Run, Somerset, New Jersey. Catherine Piatt Andrew was the daughter of Major Abraham Piatt and Annabella Andrew. James Andrew, Sr. died on 1 Mar 1854. Catherine Piatt Andrew died on 27 Jun 1828 in Hamilton County, Ohio. In her honor, her name is inscribed on the Andrew Obelisk in LaPorte, Indiana. James Andrew, Jr. was the great grandson of James Andrew (1714-1755); Find A Grave Memorial# 54566267 and Catherine Livingston Andrew.

Dr. John Andrew (1748-1814);
Revolutionary War Veteran:
The first surgeon form New Jersey to join the Continental Army. He served for seven years and was with George Washington in the Valley Forge campaign and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis.

Revolutionary War Veteran:
A Quartermaster from Somerset County, New Jersey. a Captain of the 2nd Regiment of Middlesex County, New Jersey Militia, Colonel in Neilson's Regiment, on duty at Cranbury, New Jersey, 1 Feb 1777 to 2 Apr 1777, and later, in 1778, as a Captain in the 5th Batallion, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, Militia.
