His 2 great grandfather Johann aka John Wendal Angle died in the St. Louis area in 1818. In the early years John used Engel as the family name. The family is German, John having arrived from Germany in the mid 1700's probably living and working in Pennsylvania until the onset of the Revolutionary War when he appeared to serve in the Continental Army in Virginia and continued to move until he appears in Ste Genevieve MO in the mid 1790's.

John Moses Angle, nicknamed "Tuck" was born in 1852. (No record of birth has been found. Numerous sources including census records and the History of Pike Co refer to his birth in 1852, but his death record states 1851.)

In 1860, John was 8 years old living in with his parents: Moses Kelly Angle (aged 39) and Sarah (Martha) Angle, who was 27, and his four siblings: Warren (aged 10), George (aged 6), William (aged 4), Melissa (aged 2) in Buffalo Township, Post Office, Louisiana, Pike Co, Missouri.

John's father Moses Kelly Angle died in 1867.

In 1870, John was 19 years old living in with his mother Sarah (Martha) Angle, who was just 35 and widowed, and his five siblings: Warren (aged 20), George (aged 18), William (aged 16), Melissa (aged 11) and Henry (aged 9) in Louisiana, Pike Co, Missouri

He married Mariah Kincaid 2 Jan 1872 in Pike Co, Illinois.

In 1875, John and his wife, Maria (Mariah aka Nancy) moved briefly to Longton, Kansas to be near his wife's younger sister Mary Jane Kincaid, wife of Ezra Crane. and his children Warren (aged 2), Maud (aged 1/2). John worked as a carpenter.

John's property in Louisiana, Missouri was adjacent his parents and in 1899 his mother, Martha J Angle, was still living on her property.

In 1880, John was living in Louisiana, Pike Co, Missouri at 221 Nebraska Street with his wife, Maria (Mariah aka Nancy) and his children Warren (aged 7), Maud (aged 6), Harry (aged 3) and mother Sarah (Martha) Angel (aged 47). He was a laborer.

In 1900, John was living in Louisiana, Pike Co, Missouri at 221 Nebraska Street with his wife, Maria (Mariah aka Nancy) and his children Grace (aged 14) and Elmer Kincaid (aged 17). He was working as a carpenter.
