Birth: Mar. 24, 1827
Death: Apr. 6, 1910

Captain Venable Dies. On Wednesday morning of last week, Captain J. M. Venable died at his home on Findley Street, at the advanced age of 83 years. He was one of the best known of the old-time residenters, and has gone in and out among us for many, many years. Captain Venable was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and many good deeds done by him will live to bless his memory. He was a gallant Confederate soldier, having served his beloved Southland with valor upon many fields where men's neve and bravery was put to the severest test. Captain Venable was born in Jackson County the 24th of March, 1827. He was a Mason for the greater part of his life and the order took charge of the burial services, after the funeral was conducted by Rev. T. J. Christian at the First Methodist church last Thursday morning. The body was laid to rest at Alta Vista Cemetery. (The Jackson Herald, April 21, 1910, exchanged from the Gainesville News.)
