Mildred E. George, 104, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, in Virginia Beach, Va., and is now in heaven with the Lord. "We are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord." Mildred was born Dec. 20, 1901, in Westmoreland County to John L. and Margaret B. Tomer. She was the second of seven siblings who all predeceased her.
Mildred, a homemaker, and her husband, Marion, moved from Pennsylvania to Virginia in 1978 to be near their daughter. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Virginia Beach and a lifelong member of Poke Run Presbyterian Church in Washington Township, near Apollo. She loved attending church services and taught Sunday school in Pennsylvania for many years. She also was active in the Presbyterian Women's Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marion C. George; and by her son, John R. George.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen George Zumpol and her husband, Ray Zumpol, of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, John R. George Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Mountain Ranch, Calif., and Dawn Lynn George, of Stinnett, Texas; and by four great-grandchildren. She also is survived by four stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at HOLLOMON-BROWN FUNERAL HOME, Lynnhaven Chapel, with Pastor Don Robinson officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Poke Run Church Cemetery, Apollo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Bible Church, 2961 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607."
