Ronald "Ron" Horne
BRIGHAM CITY – On April 22, 2013, our beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandpa, Great-grandpa, and Best-friend, Ronald "Ron" Horne, left this Earth. His ever-lasting spirit returning home, forever taking its rightful place, along-side our dear Heavenly Father. He was surrounded by his loving wife, caring family members, and a very dear friend.
Ron was born December 28, 1929 in Logan, Utah to Leland and Myrtle Clark Horne.
He served seven years in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Ron received the WWII Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
Ron attended Eastern Washington State College, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then went on to receive his License to Practice Social-Work in 1976.
Ron had four-children from his first marriage to Leah Kofoed: Alan Horne, Katherine (Ron) Lloyd, and Paul Horne, all of Clarkston, Washington; David Horne of Tri Cities, Washington.
Ron married Shirlea on October 25, 1979. They where later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple. He became "Dad" to her five children: Lisa Sorensen, Brigham City; Lyn (Monte) DeBerry, Kaysville; Bev Dickerman, Las Vegas; Curt (Rebecca) Christensen, Tucson; and Mike Christensen (deceased), and "Grandpa" to their children.
He has 22 grandchildren an abundance of great-grandchildren, and many close, dear friends, who respect and admire him for the way he lived life. Ron was always there for us when we needed him. He was a constant guide. Unwavering; in his commitment to services. Relentless; in his willingness to help those in need.
Ron was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brigham City Central Ward for many years. He served in many church callings with dedication and commitment. He and Shirlea served a mission in Atlanta, GA.
This great man worked as a Social Worker for the state of Idaho, was an electrician, a Janitor at Mountain View Elementary School, and at the Brigham City High School Natatorium. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and traveling in his spare time. Ron was a carpenter, a wood-worker, a mechanic, and a great handy-man. He could fix just about anything. Ron loved working with his hands.
Ron and Shirlea lived in Brigham City, Utah for 32 years. This was "Their Home." This was "Their Place."
Due to failing health, they've lived the last two years together, holding hands, at Apple Tree Assisted living in Kaysville, Utah, and at Willow Glen Health & Rehab in Brigham City.
We would like to thank Bristol Hospice for the excellent care they gave Ron and our family through this tough time. We would also to thank Willow Glen Rehab, and Apple Tree Assisted living for their excellent care, and companionship.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City. Friends may call on Tuesday prior to the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Mortuary.
Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded.
