A Record of Indiana Men and Women who Died in the Service of the United States
and the Allied Nations in the World War.
Son of John and Bertha Nieper Rau; born December 18, 1895, Cannelton, Ind. Machinist. Entered service June 24, 1918, Cannelton, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Training School. Transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga.; assigned to 6th Casualty Company, 12th Provisional Regiment. Transferred to Camp Upton, N.Y. Overseas in October, 1918. Contracted pneumonia while on board transport, and died October 23, 1918, Brest, France. Body returned to U.S., and buried in Cliff Cemetery, Cannelton, Ind.
