ROBINSON, James Dixon, Jr.
James Dixon Robinson, Jr., is chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Atlanta, Georgia. He also serves on the boards of a number of other business firms, and of charitable, cultural and civic organizations. He is a member of a pioneer family of the Southern metropolis. His maternal grandfather, Captain James Warren English, who came to Atlanta shortly after the War Between the States, was for half a century a prominent Atlanta citizen, and his father, James D. Robinson, Sr., one of the city's leading He began his education in the Atlanta schools, attended Emory University, and the Virginia Military Institute, where he graduated in 1925, and later attended the Graduate School of Business Administration at Harvard University from 1926 to 1928 . After leaving Harvard he began his career as a bond salesman, joining the Fourth National Company, of Atlanta. He remained with the organization when it merged with the Investment Department of the Trust Company of Georgia to form the First National Company. This merger was dissolved in 1933, and Mr. Robinson remained with the Trust Company of Georgia, becoming a vice president in 1934. He continued in charge of its bond department until 1940, when he became a director of the bank and transferred to the Commercial Banking Department. In 1948 he was named president of the Trust Company of Georgia Associates. He became chairman of the Trust Company's Executive Committee in 1949. Elected to the post of chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Atlanta in April, 1952, Mr. Robinson resigned from his Trust Company of Georgia positions. He was elected in April, 1956 to a one year term as president of the Association of Reserve City Bankers. Mr. Robinson is a director of the First National Bank of Atlanta, Georgia Marble Company of Tate, Georgia, Rhodes, Inc. of Atlanta, and the Atlantic Company of Atlanta. He is a vice president as well as a director of the Chattahoochee Brick Company. He served in past years as chairman of both the Georgia Ports Authority and the Atlanta Housing Authority. He has been treasurer and director of the Atlanta Chamber of Conrtmerce, and is a member of the board of trustees and former president of the Central Atlanta improvement Association. He serves on the board of trustees of the Georgia State Employees Retirement System. He is a trustee, a member of the executive committee, and chairman of the Health Services Board of Emory University. Mr. Robinson is also a trustee of the A. G. Rhodes Home, and vice president and trustee of the Atlanta Art Association. He is treasurer of the Georgia Heart Association. He is a member of the Peachtree Golf Club, Piedmont Driving Club, Capital City Club and the Nine O'Clocks in Atlanta; the Augusta National Golf Club at Augusta, Georgia, and The Links of New York City. He is also a member of the Chi Phi fraternity, The American Branch of the Newcomen Society of England, and the Society of Colonial Wars. He is a communicant of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. In Atlanta, on April 25, 1934, James Dixon Robinson, Jr., married Josephine Crawford, daughter of Dr. James Harden and Hallie (Pattillo) Crawford, both of Atlanta.
