The Pilot-Tribune is indebted to Howard Farr for a copy of the Western Nebraska Observer, published at Kimball, which carried an account of the funeral of the late E. J. Farr, who was at one time a well known resident of this city.
In a letter which accompanied the newspaper, Howard states that his mother is at Paxton, Neb., with Frank Farr, but that she expects to soon go to Cheyenne to make her home with him. The clipping follows:
“E. J. Farr, for over nine years a well known and respected citizen of Kimball, passed away at his home in this city Friday morning at 9:00 o’clock, following an illness of several months’ duration. Mr. Farr had been failing in health for several years, but it was not until recently that his condition became critical. Cancer of the stomach was given as the cause of his death.
Funeral services in charge of Independent Order Odd Fellows, were held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Reverend Gerald Fitzgerald officiating. Interment was made in the Kimball cemetery.
“Edmund Joseph Farr was born at Coral, near Union, McHenry county, Illinois on February 10, 1858, and departed this life September 27, 1929, aged 71 years, 7 months and 17 days. When five years of age he moved with his parents to Union and here he remained until 1870 when his parents came to Nebraska and settled at Beatrice. In 1879 the deceased went to Blair to accept a position as deputy postmaster, later taking over the duties of express agent, which position he filled for eighteen years. On January 10, 1883 he was united in marriage to Myrtle A. McCumber of Blair, and to this union were born two children, Howard E. of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Frank M. of Paxton.
“Mr. Farr, with his family, moved to Kimball in May 1920, and has made this his home since. He joined the Odd Fellows lodge in 1892, and received the honors from this organization, having been elected Grand patriarch of the jurisdiction of Nebraska in 1919. He was also grand representative from Nebraska to the Sovereign grand lodge encampment for two years. He was affiliated with the Dix I.O.O.F. lodge and the Dix Encampment. He was also an outstanding member of the Knights of Pythias lodge at Kimball, and of the Modern Woodman of America camp of this city, serving as clerk of the local camp for several years. Mr. Farr was not a member of any church, but attended the Presbyterian church regularly until illness prevented.
“He is survived by his wife and two sons, Frank M. of Paxton and Howard E. of Cheyenne, besides other relatives and a host of friends."
