He married Susannah Day August 4, 1831, in Latimore Township, Adams County, and fathered Jacob (b. 02/01/45), Hannah (b. @1843), Boreas (b. @1845), Amos (b. @1847), George C. (b. @1849), and Priscilla (b. @1852). In 1860 he was a fruit merchant living in Huntington Township, Adams County. He stood 5' 8" tall and had gray hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Adams County October 16, 1862, as a substitute for James Riggle, mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 7 as a private with Co. K, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg.
