The body of Mrs. F. M. French, a former resident of this county, was brought here from La Junta, Colo., for burial last Saturday, and without other ceremony the body was laid beside her husband and little son, Fred, who was accidentally killed by the discharge of a shotgun years ago when we were just a lad old enough to remember about it. The Frenches lived out on the Papio, on the place now occupied by Norman Wilkins, near where we grew up, and we remember, well, attending the funeral of the little fellow. Miss Percus Lytle was born in Lisbon Centre, N.Y., in 1850 and moved with her parents to Corona, Mich., where she was married to F. M. French. Shortly after marriage they came to this county and settled on the farm of which we spoke above. Besides the son, whom we mentioned above, there were three children, Mrs. C. F. Helm, H. S. French, of Leeds, S.D., and Albert French of La Junta. Mr. French died on the farm in 1879 and in 1883 the family moved to Chadron, where they lived on a big ranch until 1895 when they moved on another ranch near Creighton. In 1906 they moved onto a ranch two miles from LA Junta. For many years Mrs. French has been keeping house for her youngest son, Albert, who never married. She was driving to LA Junta to visit her daughter with a friend last Thursday when she was stricken with apoplexy, death coming that night at 12:30. The funeral was held at the daughter’s home on Friday and all the children accompanied the body here for burial. A grandson, Frank Helm, came up from Lawrence, Kans., where he is attending the Kansas State University, to see and help lay her in her last resting place. Frank Linden, who lived near the Frenches out on the farm, made all arrangements here for the burial, and entertained the family while they were here, for which they were very grateful, indeed.

United States Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War, 1890 ~ Francis Marion French; Spouse's Name Percia French; Census, 1890 in Chadron, Dawes, Nebraska, United States

United States General Index to Pension Files ~ Francis M French ~ Pension, 1890, Nebraska ~ Persis L French

It should perhaps be noted that 1860 census record indicates naming as Francis M. French, and 1870 as Francis French. This is consistent with census records, but is not consistent with the naming on his headstone.
