James William Harney, 81, formerly of Muncie, Indiana passed away on April 28, 2004 in Cape Coral, Florida Hospital.
He was born on July 28, 1922 in Elwood, Indiana to Frank and Mary Ann Van Horn Harney, moved to Muncie as a child and attended Muncie Central High School class of 1941. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class, and received the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, American Area Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal. Bill retired from Chevrolet Muncie in 1982 and moved to the lakes in Kosciusko, County with his wife Clara and lived on Irish lake part of the Barbee Chain of Lakes. In 1996 Bill and Clara moved to Cape Coral, Fl. Mr. Harney was a life member of the American Legion, North Webster, In. D. A. V. of Goshen, VFW of Syracuse, In. Veterans Club of America Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. He was a member of the AmVets Post 81 Ft. Myers. Greater Pine Island Elks Lodge 2781, Eagles Lodge in Syracuse, Indiana. Pine Island Moose Lodge 1954, Avondale Sympathy Club, and the Muncie Central High School Alumni Association. Surviving is his wife of 45 years Clara E.; three daughters, Judy Morton. (husband- Jerry), Cape Coral, Florida. Linda Jennings (husband- Kenneth), Hartville,Ohio, and Jeanie Foster (husband-Ray), Akron, Ohio; four brothers, Selby Harney, Muncie, Roscoe, Tennessee, Clifford and Kenneth, both of Wichita Falls, Texas; five sisters, Thelma Belt, Imogene Hurst, and Phyllis Akers, all of Muncie, Maxine Burke, Sharpsville, and Doris Martin, Alexandria, Indiana; five grandsons; one granddaughter, and eleven great grandchildren. Services will be held in the Meeks Mortuary and Crematory Chapel at 1:00 P. M. on Tuesday. Burial will fallow in Elm Ridge Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 11:00 A. M. Until time of services on Tuesday.
