Thomas Compton, 53, who formerly resided at Borderland, died Saturday, December 10, 1966 at the home of a niece, Mrs. Russell Stapleton, at 443 E Whittier Street in Columbus, Ohio.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Alice Compton, of Island Creek, near Pikeville, and was a veteran of World War II. Of his immediate family, he is survived by four brothers and two sisters, who are Bert Compton, of Columbus, O.; Pearl Compton, of Charleston, W. Va.; Finous Compton of Sidney, Ky., and Luther Compton, of Allen, Ky., Mrs. Bertha Robinette of Borderland; and Mrs. Florene Brewer of Island Creek near Pikeville.
Compton was a veteran of World War II and the holder of the Distinguished Flying Cross, Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star and Air Medal.
The body is being returned to Pikeville where funeral services will be held at the Freewill Baptist Church at Island Creek and burial will be in a cemetery at Island Creek.
