MRS. MARY GORMAN

Mrs. Mary Gorman, died at her home near Fulton, Wyoming, on Friday, May 14, 1920, aged 64 years, 9 months and 9 days, after an illness of three months, and a multitude joins with us in saying that a truly great woman has gone to her reward.

Mary McCoy was born at La Salle, La Salle County, Illinois, August 5, 1855, and was married to Patrick Gorman at Amboy, Illinois, in 1872. In 1878 she came with her husband and family to Ulysses, Nebr., where she remained until May, 1917, when she moved to her late residence near Fulton, Wyoming.

Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gorman, eleven of whom survive. A boy three years old and a baby girl died many years ago, and her husband preceded her in 1918.

Two little grand children, Ruth and Lucille Graham, have made their home with her for the last few years and have received every care and consideration from her, and from the other members of the family.
Deceased was a devout Catholic and an esteemed Royal Neighbor. She was educated and refined and during her younger days was a teacher in the public schools.

Whenever there was sickness or distress in the neighborhood, when the angel of death hovered near and was about to enter our homes and take from us one more loved one, there was no one who could so gently soothe the fevered brow, no one so tenderly close the eyelids in their last peaceful sleep, and no one who could speak such consoling words of comfort to the loved ones left behind, as Mrs. Gorman.

And through her last illness our hearts were with her in her faraway home in Wyoming and we yearned to go to her and comfort her, and to repay her for at least some of her kindness.

Yet we know that our heavenly father
Has written her name in gold
And for every kindly word and deed
Will repay her a thousand fold.

A rare blessing and a rare honor was hers – to have her large family of children and grandchildren gathered around her bedside during her last sickness. Her children are Thomas of Olpe, Kansas, Mrs. Nora Fahey of Chicago, Ills.; Mrs. Anna Graham, of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Nellie Schenberger of Staplehurst, Nebr.; George of Ulysses, Richard, Joseph, John, Leo and Charles and Mrs. Francis Austin of Fulton, Wyoming. She also leaves seventeen grand children , one great-grand child and a sister, Mrs. Bradley of Ulysses. Six of her sons acted as pall bearers.

The funeral services were conducted at the Torrington Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father George of Douglas, Wyoming, and the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Catholic cemetery near Torrington, May 21.

Her life was so full of kindness
Her heart was so full of love,
That when she was tired and weary,
God called her to heaven above,
And so with each child and grand child,
And her little great-grand child too,
We will kneel in prayer in tears and love,
And bid her a fond adieu.
But after the night comes morning<
After the shadows the sun
And Oh! the joy of meeting
After our work is done.
