Birth: Jan. 12, 1814

Death: Feb. 6, 1896

Mrs. Nancy Hartley was born January 12, 1810 and died February 6, 1896. Mrs. Hartley's mother died when she was quite young, an she was brought up and educated by her aunt, Mrs. Rebecca Minor, whose home is near Mapletown. Her father's family consisted of twelve children, six by his first wife, and six by his second. Of these, only one, Mr. Philip Minor, of Mapletown, is now living. Soon after Mr. James E. Hartley and Miss Nancie Minor were united in marriage, they located on that place, which has long been known as the Hartley farm, near Pierceville. Here, their family, consisting of three children, one daughter and two sons, were brought up here. Mr. James E. Hartley died in January 1888. In due time, Mrs. Hartley's sons, Leroy and N.M. Hartley, moved to farm of their own, on which they had good success, as they stand at the present time among the most prominent citizens of Greene County - Mr. N. M. Hartley, having twice represented Greene County in the legislature in Harrisburg. Mrs. Hartley and her daughter, Miss Sarah Rebecca, remained on the farm til the fall of 1895, when her sons prevailed upon her and her daughter to go and spend their remaining days with them. It seemed providential that this change was made because Mrs. Hartley only survived a few months and her daughter's health had now become so poor they both needed constant care and attention. Mrs. Hartley was a very kind and friendly woman and much esteemed by her neighbors and friends.
