Bertha Elsie George, daughter of Frank and Rophama George, was born at Industry, Kansas on February 6, 1893, and passed away at Topeka, Kans., Oct. 26, 1949. As a child she moved with the family to Irving, where she lived for many years. She was educated in the Irving schools, where she was always an outstanding student, graduating from high school with the class of 1910. She then taught school for about nine years. In her youth she joined the Methodist church in Irving and was active as church organist and secretary of the Sunday School.
On June 30, 1919 she was united in marriage to Timothy McAsey and lived on a farm near Holton, Kans., also at Effingham and Frankfort. To this family were born three children; two girls dying in infancy and one son, Norman McAsey, now living at Tampa, Kansas.
Besides her husband and son and three grandsons, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Geo. Turner of Irving; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Spencer of Whiting; Mrs. Dean Potter of Frankfort; Miss Esther George of Irving and one brother, Marion George of Kansas City, Mo.
Death has brought a welcome relief from the illness, which saddened and clouded her life for so long. The memory of her gay spirit, her keen intellect, and her friendly personality will always be treasured by the many friends who knew and loved her in her younger years.
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church on Friday at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev O.J. Rundus. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Thomson, and Miss Blanche DeShazer and Fred J. Piper with Mrs. F.J. Piper at the piano.
Pallbearers were nephews and friends: Don Potter, Allan Potter, Richard George, and Harvey Spencer, all of Manhattan and Chauncey Hawke and Kenneth Blaney of Irving. Padden and Sons from the Frankfort Funeral Home were in charge of the burial, which was in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.
Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the services were: Mr. Timothy McAsey and sister, Mrs. Grace Flin, Atchison; Mr. and Mrs. Norman McAsey and three sons of Tampa, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. W. McAsey and son, Holton; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Spencer, Whiting; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Potter and Dean, Jr., Frankfort; Marion George of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Ben Pishney, Mrs. Frank Johnson, Mrs. Rueben Roepke, all of Waterville. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Johnson, Blue Rapids and Francis Guffee, Marysville.
