Jesse S. Blair was raised in this city and educated in the Belton public schools and Wedemeyer Academy. He was married January 26 1892, to Miss Ida Camilla Cochran to which union four children were born—Jess Wallis, who died only two weeks before his father; Harry E. Blair; Tom C. Blair, and Mrs. E. F. Lanham, Jr.. Besides the children, he is survived by his widow, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and one sister, Mrs. M. B. Fisher. Mr. Blair was a member of the Methodist church, having joined as a boy, and it was said of him that he practiced his religion seven days a week. He was a member of all branches of the Masonic lodge, including the Shrine; W. O. W., and was a charter member of the Belton
Rotary club. Aside from his church and lodge work) he was active in every worthwhile civic project for the city and assisted in the founding and promoting of many business institutions of Belton. Starting in the business world as a young man, he was first employed in a dry goods store. His venture on his own account was in 1904 when he became associated with the firm of Cook, Cochran & Co. as a partner in the business. He continued with this firm, which later became T. W. Cochran & Co., until 1917, when the name was again changed, to Cochran, Blair & Potts. In 1929 the firm was reorganized and incorporated under the name of Cochran, Blair & Potts, Incorporated, with Mr. Blair as the first vice-president, which connection he held until his death. Failing health compelled him to retire from active connection with the corporation in 1935. Mr. Blair was a good man. No higher tribute could be paid any man.
