Actor. Born in Brooklyn, he caught the acting bug as a child and was an avid participant in amateur theatre. His father, however, insisted he study law. Hinds graduated from the Harvard Law School and was a practicing attorney for 32 years. But when he lost most of his money in the 1929 stock market crash, he decided to start a new life in Hollywood. Tall and distinguished-looking, Hinds went on to appear in over 150 films, usually playing wise patriarchs. He played Pa Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946), and was Lew Ayres' doctor father in the "Dr. Kildare" series. Among his other credits are "Little Women" (1933), "She" (1935), "Stage Door" (1937), "Test Pilot" (1938), "You Can't Take It With You" (1938), "Destry Rides Again" (1939), "Buck Privates" (1941), "Son of Dracula" (1942), "Cobra Woman" (1944), "Scarlet Street" (1946), and "The Egg and I" (1947). Hinds was also one of the founders of the famed Pasadena Playhouse. (bio by: Bobb Edwards)
