Rev. E. W. Frisch, Rollingstone Native, Succumbs
The Rev. Edward Waldemar Frisch, 44, native of Rollingstone and recently-appointed pastor of St. Mary's church, Dundee, Minn., died of a heart attack Sunday. Father Frisch was found dead in bed by some of his parishioners after he had failed to appear for the scheduled Sunday Mass.
Father Frisch suffered his first severe heart attack October 1, 1945. On March 16, 1946, he suffered another attack and as a result resigned as pastor of St. Patrick's Church, West Albany, April 11, 1946. He remained at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha, until September 18, 1946. Being much improved after the six-month rest, and with the approval of physicians, he accepted the appointment at Dundee. The work had been considerably lightened by the previous setting up if the mission church of the Sacred Heart at Brewster as a resident pastorage.
Father Frisch was born February 3, 1902, in Rollingstone. He studied the classics and philosophy at St. Mary's College in Winona, receiving his bachelor if arts degree in 1932. His theological studies were completed at St. Paul seminary in 1936.
His Excellency, the most Rev. Francis S. Kelly, Bishop of Winona, ordained Father Frisch at the chapel of the College of St. Teresa here June 6, 1936. He was first appointed assistant pastor of St. Peter's Church, Caledonia, remaining there until 1941. In that year he became assistant pastor of St. Felix Church, Wabasha, and continued there until April 28, 1943 when he was appointed pastor of St. Patrick's West Albany, and the mission church of St. Clement's, Hammond.
He is survived by his father J. P. Frisch , Wabasha, a brother, the Rev. Alfred Frisch, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church , Conception, and two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Walch, Altura, and Mrs. Henry Meyer, Rollingstone.
A Requiem Mass will be offered for him and St. Mary's Church at Worthington, Tuesday. The body will then be brought to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Wabasha, where it will lie in state until Wednesday morning. The body will lie in state in holy Trinity Church, Rollingstone, from 830 to 10 a.m. Wednesday. The solemn Requiem mass will be offered there at 10:30 a.m. that day by Father Alfred Frisch. The sermon will be by the Rev. F. A. McCarthy, Rochester.
Three of father Frisch's classmates, the Revs. William Schimek, Rose Ceeek, Leo Neudecker, Sherburn, and James Fasnacht, Ridgeway, will assist. The Rev. John P. Gengler, Fountain, will be in charge of the office of the dead, to be sung by priest of the diocese at 10 a.m. preceding the funeral Mass.
