Calvin Max Brizzi, age 96, of Ackley died on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday, April 19th at the First Presbyterian Church in Ackley with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Friday. The Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Calvin Max Brizzi was born on October 16, 1916 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Carl Albert Brizzi, Sr and Wilda Irene Johnston. He graduated from the South High School in Omaha, NE. On December 6, 1941 Calvin was united in marriage to Agnes Ilene Cleeton at the First Christian Church in Omaha, NE. He was inducted on January 5, 1942 into the Medics and after serving 13 months as an enlisted man applied and was assigned to OCS at Camp Lee, VA., graduating and Commissioned 2nd Lt. QMC and assigned to Army Air Force. He was Owner-Manager of the Farmers Elevator Co. Inc, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Ackley Rotary Club, Ackley Heritage Center, and the Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post #252 of Ackley. He enjoyed golf, fishing, Bridge, chess, was a coin collector, puttering, gardening and an occasional part time job.
Calvin is survived by his son, Paul and his wife, Karla of Ankeny; a daughter, Gwen Schroder and her husband, Jerry of Powell, MO; three granddaughters, Erica Marsh and her husband, Eric of Montgomery, AL, Brooke Wamsley of Bloomington, IL, and Brie Wamsley of Brooklyn, NY; a grandson, Jason Brizzi of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, and Ava Marsh all of Montgomery, AL; and a brother, Carl A. Brizzi, Jr of San Jose, CA.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes.
