He was a native of Montgomery County spending his early life in and around Winona. He graduated from Winona High School and received his B. A. degree from Memphis State University. He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Richard Scott Stafford; four sisters, Mattie Loyd Gordon Box, May Bell Reese, Claudia Post, and Daisy Lily Casteel; and a brother, Robert Asberry Stafford Jr.
