The Rev. Edwin Beckler, 78, retired pastor of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, died Thursday evening in a local rest home. He had been seriously ill the past four weeks. The family home is at 107 E. 12th.

Edwin Beckler was born at Ruskin (Nebraska), the son of George and Emma Heimsoth Beckler. He received his schooling at Deshler and attended college at St. Paul's College at Concordia, Mo., and Concordia Seminary at St. Louis. He was ordained in September of 1918 at Deshler High School before becoming pastor at Moberly, Mo. He served at Broken Arrow, Okla. before coming to pastorates in Shelton, Juniata, Rising City, David City and Tobias (all in Nebraska). He retired in 1960 and became institutional pastor for the Southern Nebraska District of the Missouri Synod and served in that capacity until three years ago. He had served on many of the district and circuit boards of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He and Miss Frieda Emde were married Aug. 21, 1918, at St. Louis.

He is survived by his wife and six sons, Donald Becker and Howard Beckler, both of St. Paul, Minn., Eugene Beckler of Santa Ana, Calif., Victor Beckler of Wausau, Wis., Gordon Beckler of West Bend, Wis., and Alfred Beckler of Grand Island; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene Kruse of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Bernard Ailts of Canby, Minn.; two brother, Hugo Beckler of Grant and Milton Beckler of Guide Rock; three sisters, Mrs. Max Magnus of Hayden lake, Idaho, Mrs. Carl Bauer of North Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Victor Hoffman of Oak and 29 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Ted, Harold and Arthur and one brother and one sister.
