A popularizer of old-time music, he was an innovator who set the stage for Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams. His songs portrayed his hard-living lifestyle. His Columbia recording career lasted from July 1925 to September 1930. Some of his 60 recordings include:“Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down,” “White House Blues," “Take a Drink On Me,” “Old And Only In the Way”. In 1931 Hollywood offered him a deal to use a song of his for a movie. He went on a drinking binge and never returned. (bio by: Tom Denardo)
