OBIT from the Toronto Star, June 4, 1909:
MR EGERTON RYERSON DIED THIS MORNING
Secretary of the Toronto Public Libaray-Had Been Suffering from Heart Trouble
Mr Charles Egerton Ryerson, for about 13 years secretary-treasurer and assistant librarian of Toronto, is dead at his home, 27 Cecil street, aged 61 years, after a prolonged state of ill health.
He was the only son of the lat Rev. Egerton Ryerson, the Father of the Ontario School system, who occupied the position of Superintendant of Education.
He was a graduate of the Model Grammar school of Upper Canada College, an Arts graduate of the University of Toronto and Trinity College. From the latter he received the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He married Miss Emily Beatty, of Cobourg, who with three sons, Rev. Egerton Ryerson, a missionary in Japan, Dr. Stanley Ryerson of College street, and J.E. Ryerson, and two daughters, Ella and Isabel, living at home, survive him.
The late Mr. Ryerson practised law until 1898, when he retired from the profession to take up the duties of secretary-treasurer of the Public Library. Eight years ago he suffered a serious break-down to his health, and though suffering from heart weakness and attendant troubles he had been able to attend to his duties as secretary-treasurer until about seven weeks ago when he was obliged to give up. He gradually sank until this morning, when at an early hour he passed away.
