The son of James & Mary Catherine Hendricks, he married Mary J. ukn. and in 1860 was a book maker (presumably an accountant) living in Southampton Township, Cumberland County. He stood 5' 5" tall and had black hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Chambersburg October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service there November 4 as a private with Co. B, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), and honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg.
The widowed Mary married a Krise and applied for a widow's pension from Iowa. Her underage child or children, who could not have been Adam's, also applied for a pension, but neither received one.
