John William was murdered sometime August 23rd the police and his family aren't sure when he was killed. His sister Ashley was also murdered that day. Here is an account of what happened.
On the morning of August 23, 2000 the 5 Carpenter children were home alone. Their father, John had left for work and their mother had taken the car in to have the brakes repaired. 14 year old Jessica heard a commotion outside her room and thought her mom had returned. When she opened the bedroom door she realized it wasn't her mom. Their was a naked man with a pitch fork in their house he had blocked all the exits and their was no escape. She closed and locked her door while trying to call 911, the phone didn't work, the man had taken the phone off the hock in the living room. Jessica made a the decision to jump out her window to go get help. Meanwhile the man had cornered Anna and Vanessa in their bedroom and was jabbing at them with the pitchfork. At this point 9 year Ashley screamed "Don't you hurt my sister" and began fighting with the deranged man. Kicking and biting him. This gave Anna and Vanessa a chance to get out of the room, hurdle the furniture and squeeze through a laundry door. They thought Ashley was behind them. Sadly the man stabbed Ashley to death with the pitchfork. Ashley's little brother John William, 7, was also killed sometime that day.
Ashley's father says "Ashley had black eyes that just sparkled. "Ashley and John William were best friends. He was quiet while she was feisty. They were always together."
