Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Bernice M. Whitaker, 78, of Lone Rock, who died at the Bremerton Convalescent Center.
The Rev. Dr. William Ellington of the Silverdale Methodist Church will officiate, and burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitaker had been ill since the end of March and had been in the hospital and at the Convalescent Center the past several months.
She was born at Vaughn (Pierce County) and lived all her life in this area. During World War II, she lived in Silverdale and worked on the assembly line in Buildings 98 and 82 at Keyport Naval Torpedo Station. She had lived at Lone Rock since after the war.
Mrs. Whitaker's husband, Sylvester (King), a logger, died seven years ago, and a sons, Leonard of Oregon, died earlier this year.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Maxyne) Sullivan, and Mrs. Frank (Iyone) Brumm and Mrs. Jack (Jayne) Freeburn, all of Bremerton; two sons, Kenneth S., Shelton, and Jim N., Pullman (Whitman County); a sister, Mrs. William Otis, Cady, Calif.; a brother, Roy Wright, Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
