Paul Weckmuller, 28

Funeral services for Paul Weckmuller, age 28, were held Monday, July 10, at the First Lutheran Church with Military Graveside Services held in the Blair Cemetery.

Paul died July 5, 1989 at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Paul Raymond Weckmuller was born on December 15, 1960 at Blair, Nebraska to Raymond and Mary Skobo Weckmuller. He attended Blair Elementary school and graduated from Blair High School in 1979. After graduation he attended Northeast Technical College in Norfolk, Nebraska.

In 1980, he entered the Coast Guard in Omaha, Nebraska and received his basic training in Alameda, California. He served on the Coast Guard Cutter Woodrush from November, 1981 to June 1982 and was stationed at St. Joseph, Michigan from July, 1982 to November, 1984. In January, 1985 he served on the Coast Guard Cutter Ironwood until August, 1987.

While on the Ironwood he married Sherry Holmes on April 18, 1986.

From September, 1987 until July, 1989 he was at the Resident Inspector Office in Seattle, Washington. During his service, he received schooling in boating safety and maritime law enforcement, MDSPOC, Emergency Medical Technician, machinery technician, damage control, shipboard firefighting, fuel handling and oily water separation, basic blueprints and gas turbine engine course.

Paul received awards in expert rifle, expert pistol shot, a first Coast Guard good conduct medal in 1984, a second Coast Guard good conduct medal in 1987 and received his third good conduct medal in January, 1989. He received a letter of appreciation from the commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cuter Ironwood in April of 1986, and Coast Guard achievement medal for superior performance for his services from 1984 to 1987.

Paul was first, on the list of 257 MK's to make advancement to first class petty officer. He was to advance on August 1, 1989.

Paul is survived by his wife Sherry; mother Mary Weckmuller of Blair; grandmother, Vita Weckmuller, Troy, New York; and three sisters, Ann McPhillips and Lyn Pahls, both of Omaha, Nebraska and Dr. Carol Weckmuller of Blair, Nebraska.

Paul was preceded in death by three grandparents and by his father, Raymond in 1986.

Weckmuller Funeral Set Monday at Blair

Funeral services for Paul Weckmuller of Seattle, formerly of Blair, Neb., will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Weckmuller, 28, died in Seattle Wednesday of septic shock caused by an infection, his sister Lyn Pahls of Omaha said.

Weckmuller was in the Coast Guard and was recently promoted to the rank of petty officer first class.

In addition to Mrs. Pahls, he is survived by his wife, Sherry; mother Mary Weckmuller of Blair; and sisters Ann McPhillips of Omaha and Dr. Carol Weckmuller of Blair.
