~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Henry Achter, Wahpeton, resident for the past 35 years, died at 1045 p.m. Monday at Saint Mary hospital here after being confined since 1942. Commitment services were held at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:30 Thursday morning and burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Requiem Mass will be held for Mr. Achter on Easter Sunday morning at 8:15. Father Meyer will officiate the rites.
"Mr. Achter was an electrician by profession. He came to the state with his brother, Joseph, in 1901. Upon coming to Wahpeton, he was employed by the Ottertail Power company at its plant on South second street. It was in the building now used as a warehouse. Later, he worked for the company at the Kidder station, being with the company 17 years in all.
"He went to work for the Wahpeton-Breckenridge street railway until it ceased operation. He returned to his employment with the Ottertail Power Company until 1931, when due to failing health, he retired.
"He served as janitor of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic school and parish until failing eyesight and ill health forced him to retire entirely from active duties. Henry Achter was a member of the Knight's of Columbus, as well as the Modern Woodmen of America.
"Mr. Achter became seriously ill in 1942 and his wife has been in constant attendance during that time; never leaving him alone if at all possible for someone to be there.
"He is survived by his wife, three sons, and three grandchildren, Eugene, Doris and Gilbert Jr., all of Wahpeton.
"Brothers and sisters who survive him are John of Chilton, WI, Mrs. Margaret Rautenburg of Milwaukee; Matt of Chilton, WI, Phillip of Wahpeton, Mrs. John McDonald of Cleveland, Ohio, Charles of Milwaukee and Louise Richards of Buffalo, NY."
