John Richard Cato
John Richard Cato, 67, formerly of 4515 Meadow Ridge, Jackson, died Wednesday, July 14 in Albuquerque, N. M. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 19, from Wright and Ferguson Chapel, Jackson. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Judy) Salmon, Muskogee, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cato Chapman, Jackson and one uncle, Henry M. Dillingham, Jackson.
Cato was a native of Winona, son of the late Robert H. and Josie Dancer Cato. He graduated from Winona High School and attended Millsaps College. He was associated with the Mississippi State Highway Department, beginning his career in 1927. He retired in 1973 with the title of Assistant Specifications Engineer, Construction Division.
He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board. He was a Thirty-third Degree Scottish Rite Mason and also a York Rite Mason; a charter member of North Jackson Lodge No. 620; a member of Wahabi Shrine Temple, and Jackson Chapter No. 47 Order of the Eastern Star. He had served in all executive offices of the Scottish Rite Bodies.
A veteran of World War II, Cato served with the Army in Europe.
His wife, Mrs. Juanita Winstead Cato, preceded him in death in September 1975.
