DAVID BENJAMIN HEARING - BIO
David B. Hearing came over the Oregon Trail with the Bay and Hearing families in 1862, locating in La Grande. He was a blacksmith by trade and was also Chief of Police in La Grande for 20 years. In 1903, he was working for the Alexander and Garity Blacksmith Shop. His residence was 1519 Monroe Street before he moved from La Grande and established a blacksmith shop in Shaniko. He is buried in the IOOF Cemetery in The Dalles.
Hearing Services Held--
Funeral services for David B. Hearing, who died at The Dalles hospital December 14, were held from the graveside in the IOOF cemetery at 1 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. C. A. Edwards officiating. Hearing at one time served as chief of police at La Grande, a position which he filled for 20 years. Until last April, when he was brought to the hospital here, he had resided at Gateway. He also operated a blacksmith shop at Shaniko, at one time. Two nephews, Samuel L. and E. W. Hearing of Haines, Ore., and a great-nephew Clyde, of Wasco were here for the services. A son Harold, could not be located.
