George Andreas Platt was born about 1806 in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany and died in Harrison County, Indiana around 1858. He was 5' 10 1/4 inch high, fair complexion, blue eyes. A cabinet maker and mechanic by trade, he was the husband of Marie M. Dutenhofar. At the age of 42, he renounced his allegiance to Germany on December 26, 1848. His place of burial is unknown. George joined the New Albany Calvary German Methodist Church on September 17th, 1848.

George Platt and his family arrived in the Port of New York on January 11, 1847. From there they came to Indiana and purchased 82.5 acres of land west of Central Barren in Harrison County, Indiana.

His son, Frederick Platt, has a Floyd County Death Record showing Father: George Platt of Germany. Mother: Lena Dudenhoefer of Germany.
