Ruth Tennant Yarbrough Obituary

BAINBRIDGE — Ruth Tennant Yarbrough, 81, of Bainbridge died Wednesday, February 15, 2006, in Wedowee, AL.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bainbridge with interment in Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge. Dr. Richard Davis and the Rev. Steve Brooks will officiate.

Active pallbearers, Oscar Dewberry, Bennie Brookins, Henry Mack, Curtis Malone, Jeff Moran and Mike Tennant.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Fronie McQuaig Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Yarbrough was born May 29, 1924, in Randolph County, AL, the daughter of Charles and Nancy Carpenter Tennant. She graduated from Randolph County High School in Wedowee, AL, in 1942, and was a retired instructor with Bainbridge State Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bainbridge where she was active in the Saints Alive Choir, Fronie McQuaig Sunday School Class, WMU, and the Fellowship Club. She was a former volunteer for the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Yarbrough was preceded in death by her husband Ocie Yarbrough and a son Larry Yarbrough.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Emmett Lawson of Wedowee, AL, and Beth and Kinney Wilson of Loganville; two brothers, William Bartow Tennant of Chesapeake, WV, and Charles Tennant of Dublin, GA; two sisters, Sarah Benefield of Hoover, AL, and Mary Jane Shumate of Tuscaloosa, AL; two sisters-in-law, Lera Davis of LaGrange, GA, and Sue Tennant of Wedowee, AL; two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Lawson and Emmett Martin Lawson III, both of Atlanta, GA; and several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ivey Funeral Home.
