He died at midnight August 29, 1923, at his late home in Mechanicsburg, Ill, at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 23 days. He leaves to survive him, His wife, Permelia Ann Lord, one daughter, Goldie Ester, two sons, Albert Luceine and Harvey Nelson, four grandchildren, one brother, Charles Lord, of Edinburg and seven sisters - Mrs. Mary Harcourt of Rochester, ILL., Mrs. Emma Burcham and Mrs. Nettie Plummer of Mechanicsburg, Ill., Mrs. Ida McFarland of Fennville, Mich., Mrs. Nellie Hufford of Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Nora Brown of Springfield, MO., and Mrs. Minnie Coe of Springfield, Ill. Mr. Lord was a man well known for his straight-forwardness and honesty in his business dealings and endeared himslef to a host of friends who mourn his loss. During his illness, lasting over sixteen months, he came to know the Saviour, and felt it the greatest regret of his life that he had waited so long to become acquainted with Him, whom to know aright means life eternal. He believed that his work was done and felt that he was ready to go.
The funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 2d, 1923, at 2:30 p.m. from the M. E. Church in Mechanicsburg, the Rev. Oscar F. Jones, former pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. W. G. Montgomery, present pastor. The theme of the sermon was "God's Restoring Power." The texts were Psalms 23:3 "He restoreth my soul" and Isa 41:10 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea I will heal thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
A mixed quartet composed of Miss Marguerite Bullard, Miss Grace Riddle, Clark Ellington and Harvey Derry, sang two selections at the church: "gathering Home" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Miss Julia Pugh of Springfield, Illinois, sang a solo, "Sometime We'll Understand." The quartette rendered "Going Down the Valley" at the graave side.
**** We wish to thank our many friends and relatives for their kindness in our recent bereavement, the death of our husband and father. Also for the beautiful floral offerings - - Mrs. W. H. Lord and Family.
