~ ~ ~ Obituary ~ ~ ~ The Record Delta:

Ruth G. Strader, long time resident of Crawford and more recently of Spencer, W.Va., died Thursday, December 8, 2005, four days after her 98th birthday at Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

She was born Dec. 4, 1907, at Evergreen, the daughter of the late Bryant J. and Luella G. Martin. She was united in marriage on October 29, 1932, to the late Paul E. Strader, who preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Calvin L. and Emmadale Strader of Parkersburg, two daughters and sons-in-law: Thelda L. and Paul Hughes of Spencer, and Paula L. and Bob Howe of Indiantown, Fla.; six grandchildren: Dr. Nikola Strader and Dr. Rockelle Strader both of Columbus, Ohio, Lisa Bradley of Charleston, Greg Hughes of Fairfax, Va., Mark and Franklin Howe, both of Palm City, Fla., four great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and two unborn great-grandchildren; and sister Lucy Brady of Florida.

Mrs. Strader graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1929. She received a standard normal teaching degree from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1931 and taught one year. After World War II, she was substitute teacher in Lewis County for many years. She later taught school in Preston County for six years.

In 1941, she was a charter member of the Crawford Community Farm Women's Club, now the Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS). In 1945, she organized and was leader of the Crawford Indian Trail 4-H Club. She was active in politics and was a Republican Committee woman. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and was a member of the Crawford United Methodist Church.

Her family and friends will remember her hospitality, good cooking and homemade bread.

Friends were received Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alkire Funeral Chapel of Ireland. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today, Dec. 12, 2005, at the funeral home.

The burial will follow at the Post Chapel Cemetery in Crawford. Memorials may be made to the Crawford Indian Trail 4-H Club, 74 Sammy Run Road, Roanoke, WV 26447.

The Alkire Funeral Chapel of Ireland is in charge of the arrangements.
