He was born in Scranton, SC, and was a veteran, of both WW II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Navy, as a Commander.
Mr. Cockfield was a graduate of Newberry College in Newberry, SC, where he received a Bachelor's Degree.
James retired in 1970 from General Motors, having worked as an Adjustor and Appraiser. He was Past Master of "Round Lodge #270, AFM", in Cottageville, SC, and the York Rite Commandery. He was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons.
Mr. Cockfield loved to fish and hunt, with his children.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Reeves Cockfield of Guyton, GA; daughter, Sherrie C. Bisbee (Robert), of Guyton; two sons, James I. Cockfield, Jr., (Fran) of Savannah, GA; and Harry Cockfield, of Cottageville, SC; sister, JoAnn Bolyn of Hemingway, SC; 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. April 5, 2013, at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Graveside Services: 1 p.m., April 2nd in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park East, with Rev. Archie Seabrooks officiating.
