JOSEPH E. BOWMAN
Joseph Elliott Bowman, 80, a lifelong resident of West Falmouth, died at his home Saturday afternoon after an illness of nearly a year. Mr. Bowman was a painter and contractor in West Falmouth where he carried on his trade until he reached the age of 75. Last year Mr. and Mrs. Bowman celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They were married in Milton in 1884.
Mr. Bowman was born in West Falmouth, November 6, 1860, the son of Captain Joseph H. and Rhoda (Hoxie) Bowman. He attended schools in Falmouth and spent several years in Milton before returning to Falmouth to take up painting in 1391. He married Fannie S. Lawton in Milton February 20, 1881. He was a member of Megansett Grange, of the K. of P., of the West Falmouth Methodist church, and a church trustee for 35 years.
Survivors include three children. Mrs. Cyrus Doiron and Miss Alice Bowman, West Falmouth; Henry H. Bowman, Seattle, Washington, and three grandchildren. Elliott Towers, West Falmouth, and Dorothy and Merlaine Bowman, Seattle.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 P. M. at his home in West Falmouth with the Rev. R.E. Mortensen of the West Falmouth Methodist church, and Donald R. White, elder, of the Seventh Day Adventist church, officiating. Music at the service will include songs by Mr. and Mrs. Mortensen. Burial will be in the North Falmouth cemetery.
