Wietse OORDT Dies at Orange CityWietse OORDT, 92, of Orange City, father of Mrs. Elmer Den Hartog of Hawarden, died last Tuesday at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Jay De Vries officiating. Burial was in the Sioux Center cemetery. For the last year Mr. OORDT has resided at Pleasant Acres Nursing home at Hull. He was born October 7, 1874 in the Netherlands and came to the United states when he was 17 years old. The family farmed in Sioux county until they moved to Orange City about 35 years ago. Survivors include three sons, Andrew and Herman both of Orange City, and Richard of Maurice. Six daughters, Mrs. Lillian Wolfswinkle of Orange City, Mrs. Andrew VAN VELDHUIZEN and Mrs. Wesley HOFMEYER, both of Hospers, Mrs. Evert ZINN of Le Mars, Mrs. Frank Hartog of Ogilvie, Minn and Mrs Den Hartog of Hawarden; four stepsons residing in Michigan, 34 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren. From the Hawarden Independent April 6, 1967Funeral services for Mr. Wietse OORDT, 92, were held on Friday morning at the Second Christian Reformed Church here. Burial was made at the Sioux Center Cemetary under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home. Pallbearers were James DYKSTRA, Jerry ZINN, Stanley OORDT, Darwin OORDT, Kenneth VAN VELDHUIZEN, and Fred Hartog. Mr. OORDT died Tuesday at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. For the last year he had resided at the Pleasant Acres Nursing Home at Hull, IA. He was born October 7, 1894 in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. At the age of 17, he settled in Sioux County. He married Anna Vander Haak and to this union 14 children were born. The family farmed in Sioux County until about 35 years ago when they came to Orange City. In 1930 he married Alberta Wiseman. After retiring from farming, Mr. OORDT was the custodian for the Second Christian Reformed Church for some time. Preceeding him in death were his first wife with sons, John I, John II, Frank, Thomas, and a daughter Ann. His second wife also preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, Andrew and Herman, both of Orange City, and RIchard of Maurice; six daughters, Mrs. Lillian Wolfswinkle of Orange CIty, Mrs. Andrew Van Veldhizen and Mrs. Wesley (Johanna) HOFMEYER of Hospers, Mrs. Evert (Gertrude) ZINN of Lemars, Mrs. Frank (Winnifred) Hartog of Ogilvie, Minn. and Mrs. Elmer (Annette) Den Hartog of Hawarden. Also 39 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren. Surviving stepsons are Jack, Albert, Herman and Benjamin all of Michigan.
