Death: Jan. 29, 1962
Saint Louis

Oldest of five children of Ernest Guental from France and his second wife Amelia Richard of Missouri.

John was named for his grandfather, Jean Jacques Gueutal, who Americanized his name after emigrating from Montécheroux, Doubs, Franche-Comté, France.

John's first wife, Victoria Sappington, died of complications from pregnancy just a year into their marriage.

15 years later, in 1934, John married Carol Marie Beck née Washam who was living in Colorado Springs at the time of John's death. She was the pastor of the Unity Church in Colorado.

When he registered for the WWI draft, John was working for the Sullivan Saddletree Company, then spent most of his career working for the Missouri/Pacific Railway as brakeman and conductor.
